  Punk's Dead 19/06/12

PRESS RELEASE from DIVUS London                   11/06/2012

................................................................................................

Simon Barker – Punk’s Dead

Exclusive exhibition of previously unseen Punk photographs in Spitalfields, East London.

................................................................................................

Location: DIVUS Temporary, 4 Wilkes Street, London E1 6QF.

Time: 7th June to 7 July 2012 – 7 days a week from 12am to 9pm.

This pop-up exhibition is a unique opportunity to see a recently discovered photographic archive capturing London’s early punk scene. Simon Barker is a photographer and artist who was a member of the infamous ‘Bromley Contingent’ from 1976 to 1977.

These 150 previously unseen images have the power to transport you back to the very peak of the punk movement to meet its seminal protagonists such as Jordan, Siouxsie Sioux, Poly Styrene, and Adam and the Ants.

The remarkably candid photographs show the founders of punk in their bedrooms and kitchens, in McLaren and Westwood’s SEX Boutique on the King’s road, backstage at the Vortex Club, and at forgotten private Derek Jarman parties, where they were experimenting with the extremes of dress and style that later became synonymous with the movement. Barker’s unassuming lens perfectly captures the spirit of the moment, before the twin forces of media and commerce inevitably sunk their claws into the heart of punk’s style and politics.

These seminal images are available to buy as limited edition prints at DIVUS Temporary, 4 Wilkes Street E1 6QF until the 7th of July.

Also available is the book Punk’s Dead published by Divus. This book is an exclusive historical and cultural document featuring an extended selection from Barker’s previously unpublished punk archive, as well as an author’s introduction followed by notes from witnesses of the scene, and newly commissioned short essays by Michael Bracewell and Peter Tatchell amongst others.

Disc 3 contains highlights from their BBC concert recordings at the Apollo Theatre in Oxford and the Royal Albert Hall in London in 1988, where the band performed a storming set 3 nights in a row to a sold out crowd. Highlights include a breathtaking Last Beat of My Heart , Christine and a rip roaring crowd pleasing end of show version of Hong Kong Garden..

Edge Of Love Soundtrack Release Date 03/06/08

Released on 20th June, award-winning director John Maybury’s film 'The Edge Of Love' features Siouxsie on the soundtrack...

Unique to the score are a number of original songs, composed by Angelo Badalamenti and director John Maybury.  Keira Knightley (who stars in the film) sings four numbers herself, but other songs are performed by an altogether remarkable string of top artists: Beth Rowley, Madeleine Peyroux, Patrick Wolf... and of course Siouxsie herself!

CD is due for release around the same time - watch this space

There would appear to be a major problem with Yuku (formerly Ezboard) communities this morning.  We are one of many communities that are affected.  I have reported the problem and hopefully all forums will be back online as soon as possible.

  Jonathon Ross Finally 14/02/08

The latest, most up to date information is that this will be recorded on 20th and broadcast on the 21st.  So, that's Friday Night With Jonathan Ross on 21st March.

  Jonathon Ross Again 13/02/08

There seems to be some confusion over what programme Siouxsie will be appearing on.  As 'Friday Night With Jonathon Ross' airs on Friday nights not Mondays and isn't scheduled to return until March 21st it seems likely that it will be his radio show that Siouxsie will be 'appearing' on and not his TV show.  I will let you know for sure as soon as possible.

  Severin Live Press Release 06/03/08

STEVEN SEVERIN PLAYS HIS FIRST EVER SOLO SHOW ON SATURDAY, MAY 3 AT THE VOODOO ROOMS IN EDINBURGH

Steven Severin plays a very special show in Edinburgh’s Voodoo Rooms on May 3rd.  Severin, acclaimed solo artist and  founder member of the legendary Siouxsie and the Banshees, will play two distinct sets, split by a short interval.

The first part of the show will see him alone onstage premiering his new score to the 1928 surrealist classic film “The Seashell and the Clergyman (La Coquille at le Clergyman)”, scripted by Antonin Artaud and directed by Germaine Dulac, which will be projected on a screen at his side.

In 1927 the British Board of Film Censors banned the film, saying “If this film has meaning, it is doubtless objectionable”.

After the interval Severin will return to the stage to play his scores to a selection of short films by modern filmmakers Aura Satz, Bruno Forzani and Helene Cattet.

Steven Severin has published a collection of prose/poetry “the Twelve Revelations” and, for 5 years, released his own work and latterly that of other artists on his own label RE:

Since 2003 he has focussed on writing music for film and tv, whilst overseeing the remastering of the  Banshees back catalogue, undoubtedly the most thrilling and consistent catalogue of music to define the 20 years after punk.

All The Latest From Severin 14/12/07

  Dear All,

Season's greetings from bonnie Scotland.  Just to keep you simmering I thought I would officially bring you up to speed.

REMASTER PROGRAM
I recently went down the vaults and finalised the options for the extras on the next batch of 4 albums:- DREAMHOUSE, NOCTURNE, HYAENA & TINDERBOX.  All the tapes are now with our new engineer, Paschal and we should be receiving reference CDRs in the New Year.  We then take a vote on what to include or exclude.  All 4 are in the Universal schedule for late March/early April next year.

BANSHEES @ THE BEEB
Universal now have a dedicated department to deal with all the material the BBC are offering for release.  With the success of VOICES ON THE AIR, Universal have invited us to prepare a 4 disc box set of ALL our radio sessions and selected live concert recordings.

I have just received listening copies of everything they have and already it's looking marvellous.  For sure all the radio sessions will be included (Peel, Skinner, Jensen, Long, Radcliffe) and I've cherry picked the best of the live concerts (Warwick, Oxford & Royal Albert Hall).

My criteria is obviously audio quality foremost but I am attempting not to duplicate too much and where possible use the version that has the original guitarist playing e.g. McGeoch on Spellbound, Carruthers on Candyman, Klein on Killing Jar.  So...I've done a provisional running order and again reference discs are being prepared for everyone.  This department seems to work twice as fast as the main back catalogue one so don't be surprised if the box set surfaces BEFORE the remasters but you can never tell.

Merry Christmas ~ Happy Hogmanay and get stuffed:)

  Martin McCarrick Memorabilia 01/12/07

  Message from Martin McCarrick:

I've been going through my loft, clearing stuff out as one does every few years, and I came across a box of Banshees memorabilia including a bunch of Tour t shirts.  I take them out and look at them every now again but it seems a great shame for them to be growing old in my attic, so I've decided it's time to part with them and offer them out to some dedicated Siouxsie and The Banshees enthusiasts who might get more use/enjoyment out of them.  They are all in perfect condition, never worn, some rarer than others, some as old as 17 years.  I've put them on eBay at very low prices and am wondering if you could put something on your message board letting people know they are available.  I'd be much happier for them to go to true fans than for them to be bought and to end up in a dreadful 'vintage and rare' eBay shop.  CLICK HERE FOR LINK  Potential buyers can check out 'view sellers other items' to see full listings.

If you have registered with Siouxsie's Mantaray mircosite www.siouxsiemantaray.com you should have received an email instructing you how to access the 'Mekon Mix' of 'Into A Swan'.  Firstly you will see a small video of Siouxsie on the set of the 'Into A Swan' video.  Siouxsie says 'Now you've found me I'm gonna give you something in return'  You are then instructed to enter your email details and hit 'submit'.  Apparently this message can also be found on many P2P sharing programmes.  Downloading any 'wma' file that says it is one of the album tracks from 'Mantaray' will do the job.  However, nothing is that simple.  The 'Mekon Mix' of 'Into A Swan' is a copy protected 'wma' file, registering your email via the video link triggers an email with a personal code that you will need to enter to play the song.  To access the video link or the 'Mekon Mix' you MUST have the very latest version of Windows Media Player and have all the necessary copyright updates.  Getting the file is not easy and it can't be shared (as far as I'm aware).  However, do not despair, the 'Mekon Mix' is one of the mixes that will be included on the 12" single of 'Into A Swan'.

  Stories Inspired By Siouxsie 27/06/07

Here's something a little different, a new book of Stories Inspired By Siouxsie

I've had my copy for a while now. I read the book in one sitting. I can't recommend it highly enough. The stories really are inspired. Using different song titles or lyrics as a starting point Gregory Patrick takes you to the most unexpected places. He writes with authority and with a vivid imagination. If you love the dark, dangerous and magical world of the Banshees, you will love this.

  Severin Solo Tour Cancelled 19/01/07

Taken from a bulletin Severin posted through MySpace

I am very sorry to have to say this but I feel I have to cancel all the shows I have lined up so far. Simply, I do not feel I have sufficient time to prepare for this venture. I had hoped that I would be much closer to finalising the material and sorting the technical and logistical details by now. Present & near future commitments dictate that I will not have the quality of presentation I feel necessary by mid May.

I am not discounting playing live in the foreseeable future but I cannot guarantee when that might be.

Thank you

Steven

Press Release From The House Of McCarrick 15/01/07

  Hello All

The McCarricks are at it again. More films, more live music and another unmissable night at the wonderful Horse Hospital. The date for the diary is Friday 26th January 2007 - 7.30pm.

This time we'll be celebrating the work of film maker/animator Norman McLaren.

McLaren was born in Scotland in 1914. He became interested in cinematic techniques while studying at the Glasgow School of Art in the 1930's where he spent his spare time making films and playing the organ!  He began to develop innovative animated film techniques that eliminated the camera and required the artist to draw, paint or scratch directly onto the film. His animations are beautiful and extraordinary and it is unsurprising that he was an inspirational source to the likes of Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso. His films continue to baffle film enthusiasts who even with today's advanced technology are unable to obtain the same results.

We've taken the liberty of scoring new soundtracks for a selection of Norman McLaren films and would like to invite you along to see/hear the results. In addition we'll be playing a few favourites from our show 'Music From The Third Floor' as well as performing some brand new work.

Support for the night will be from experimental electric violinist Tansy Spinks www.tansyspinks.com

More information on The McCarricks can be found at www.houseofmccarrick.com and the obligatory myspace - www.myspace.com/themccarricksmusic

The Horse Hospital is housed in what was an old Victorian Horse Hospital situated just behind Russell Square tube station. www.thehorsehospital.com

Feel free to forward this to anyone you think may be interested

Hope to see you there
