| The band: Siouxsie Sioux, Steven Severin, Budgie, John Carruthers. Shot 10-13/11/86. The original idea for the video revolved around a circus theme, wheels metamorphosing into circus tents with lots of basic turning imagery... but that got dismissed somewhere along the line in favour of filming the sensation of being out of control... charging along... horse drawn carriages... all motion... nothing stationary. Filmed in the Berkshire countryside, the video centers around a horse drawn carriage (incidentally the same one used in all the old Hammer Horror Dracula movies). The names of the horses, Dumpty & Cornet, are immortalised when they are scratched into the run out groove of the 7" single. Siouxsie, in full Cruella DeVille mode scours the countryside picking up vulnerable young men along the route. Some of the scenes in the actual wood are reminiscent of the 'Spellbound' video. The rest of the action takes place in the Griphouse Studios, Greenford. Siouxsie drapes herself over what looks like a huge crystal ball while the silhouette of a large wagon wheel turning is superimposed over the footage. Outstanding moment; Siouxsie twirling a trail of coloured ribbons, superimposed over the horses and carriage racing through the waterlogged track. Received the honour of being BBC TV's Saturday Superstore Video Panel winner with 36 points. | ||

It's
hard to believe it, but Siouxsie Sioux will be 40 years old this
summer... what a trooper! From their humble origin as the punk band
nobody wanted to touch with a barge-pole, Sioux and Steve Severin have
consistently steered the Banshees up the wrong side of the motorway,
ignored road signs, crashed through red lights, and run over countless
hapless pedestrians. They, of course, love a good car crash...
Nearly written off in a terrible acid casualty, when a truckload of Indian carpets, paisley shirts and Jefferson Airplane albums collided with the Banshee Batmobile, Sioux and Steve hobbled out of the incense fumes - giddy with LIFE and humour. During their convalescence, feet up and fright wig off, they whiled away the hours twittering and rediscovering their record collections. The result: a truly daft album. One of the beneficiaries of "Through The Looking Glass" is Iggy Pop, who has never held a driver's license in his life but has instead surfboarded blindfold through the rush-hour traffic, frequently ending up in a bruised and bloodied heap outside various corporations' doors. However, the Banshees' affectionate (just get a load of the horn section!) highly commercial rendition of Iggy's "The Passenger" is a wonderful tribute to his considerable songwriting talents; and for the Banshees, it's a sharp, surprising slap in the face to critics who saw their fate as only spontaneous combustion in a fire of their own morbidity and re-hashed hippy mysticism |

| Description: | ||
| The Band: Siouxsie Sioux, Steven Severin, Budgie. Although John Carruthers plays on this track, he had by this time left the band. Shot 18-20/02/87 at Bell Studios, Middlesex. The set consists of a large spinning/swinging Perspex contraption from which Siouxsie sings the song whilst silhouetted, outstretched hands touch and 'spin' her around.. The video opens with Budgie drumming some paint splattered drumsticks behind a Perspex screen. The band play their respective instruments dressed in striking black and white. At one point Severin simulates playing a double bass across Siouxsie naked back. When not wearing a shimmering headdress and juggling metallic balls in the background, Siouxsie reveals her radical new Vidal Sassoon haircut. The band are later seen linking arms, ala the 'Happy House' video, and high kicking whilst lit by neon streets signs and passing car headlights. | ||

| Originally titled 'He's Cuckoo', Budgie is inspired by the 'cuckoo' noise that emanates from his boiling kettle one morning, leafs through his Observer Book Of Birds and writes the lyrics. | ||
